Today’s Bulletin
2 Peter 1:16-21
16 For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. 17 For when he received honor and glory from God the Father, and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased,” 18 we ourselves heard this very voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain. 19 And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts, 20 knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation. 21 For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

Ice Breaker: What is a default or normal in your family that’s a little weird?
This Week Specific
Regarding the Eyewitness Testimony of the Apostles (v.16-18):
1 The sermon contrasts the apostles' eyewitness testimony with "cleverly devised myths." How are you tempted to rely on "myths" (e.g., cultural trends, personal feelings, popular opinions) rather than the historical truth of the Gospel in your daily life? Give a specific example.
2 Peter emphasizes the Transfiguration as a confirmation of Christ's glory and coming. When have you experienced a moment (big or small) that strengthened your belief in Jesus' power and future return? How did that experience impact your life?
3 The sermon highlights the apostles' willingness to suffer and die for their testimony. What areas of your life are you hesitant to fully commit to Christ? What steps can you take to live more boldly for Him, even in the face of potential hardship?
4 How does the reality of the Transfiguration give you confidence amidst doubts or uncertainties about your faith? How can you remind yourself of this event when facing challenges?
5 Peter, James, and John witnessed the Transfiguration. How important is the concept of community and shared experiences in strengthening our faith? How can you cultivate deeper relationships with other believers to support one another in your faith journeys?
Regarding the Confirmed Word of the Prophets (v.19-21):
6 The sermon describes the prophetic word as "more fully confirmed" by Jesus' life and ministry. How does understanding the Old Testament as pointing to Jesus impact your reading and understanding of it?
7 How does the knowledge that Scripture is "breathed out by God" (2 Tim 3:16) affect your attitude towards reading and studying it? What practical steps can you take to engage more deeply with God's Word?
8 The sermon compares the prophetic word to a "lamp shining in a dark place." What specific areas of your life feel dark or uncertain right now? How can you use Scripture to find guidance and light in those areas?
9 Peter warns against interpreting Scripture according to "someone's own interpretation." Why is this dangerous, and how can you ensure you are interpreting Scripture correctly? What resources or practices can help you in this process?
10 Jeremy connects the reliability of Scripture to the fact that it was spoken by men "carried along by the Holy Spirit." How does this understanding of the inspiration of Scripture give you confidence in its truthfulness and authority?
11 The sermon concludes with the phrase "Tolle Lege" (take and read). What is one specific action you will take this week to engage more deeply with Scripture?
General Application:
12 The sermon mentions false teachers who were denying the return of Christ. How can you discern truth from falsehood in the teachings you encounter today, both within and outside the church?
13 How does the hope of Christ's future return motivate you to live a godly life in the present?
14 Reflect on your personal prayer life. How can the truths of 2 Peter 1:16-21 inform and enrich your prayers?
